Deed to George C. and Hugh F. McCarter
in Grayson County, Virginia

March 8, 1877

Brothers George C. and Hugh F. McCarter of Ashe County, North Carolina purchase three acres on Little Helton Creek in Grayson County, Virginia.

This indenture made on the 8th day of March, 1877 by and between John H. Whitman of the County of Grayson, State of Virginia, the first part and H.F. and G.C. McCarter, County of Ashe, State of North Carolina of the second part; witness that the said John H. Whitman in consideration of the sum of two hundred dollars to him in hand, paid by the said G.C. And H.F. McCarter the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged by the said John. H. Whitman that these presents doth grant, bargain and sell in full simple unto the said H.F. And G.C. McCarter, their heirs and assign a certain parcel of land lying on the waters of the Little Helton in the State of Virginia, County of Grayson, containing three acres, more or less said land bounded as follows: beginning on what is supposed to be a Spanish Oak and white oak among some rocks near a path leading up Little Helton. Thence Northwest 100 poles to Two bushes on the bank of the Little Helton, thence down the Helton thru its various crooks to a stake on the west side of the creek opposite the wolf pen [Wolf Pen Creek] - thus across the creek to the wolf pen thence to the beginning.

Witnesses to have and to hold the said tract and parcel of land with everything there unto belonging to him and the said John H. Whitman, his heirs and assigns forever doth here by covenant and agree to forever warrant and defend the title to the above land, free from all persons whom so ever. In witnesses whereof I have here to set my hand and seals this day and data above mentioned.
