Mattie May Thorpe McCarter
My Grandma Mattie (1892-1991) was born in Columbia County, Washington in 1892 to Genette May and Arthur Clayton Thorpe. Arthur was the son of Joseph W. Tharp and Amanda Carmean. Genette was the daughter of Thomas May and Martha Dodson.
When Mattie was just a girl her parents moved to the Camas Prairie in Idaho. In 1912 she married Bill McCarter, and they eventually took over his family's homestead. They had six children - the youngest being my father Joe.
Grandma died at the age of 98, just one day short of her 99th birthday.
