Philander McCarter Household in the
1840 Census of Grayson County, Virginia
The McCarter household had three males under five (sons Levi, Martin V. B., and Andrew), one male 30-40 (Philander), one female under five (daughter Catherine), and one female 30-40 (Thurza).
Who were the two males 10-15, the female 15-20, and the female 20-30?

The McCarter household had one person employed in Agriculture, and one in Commerce. For almost two years (4 Feb 1837 - 9 May 1839) and (16 Jun 1840 - 3 Sep 1840) Philander was the Postmaster for Elk Creek. This fact, coupled with him being 'employed in commerce,' leads us to believe that he might have been running a general store at this time.
