Grave of Philander McCarter

Grave of Philander McCarter

Philander died on February 9, 1870 and was buried on a knoll above his farm in Ashe County, North Carolina just 200 feet over the Virginia state line.

His grave is located on the Plummer farm at 1326 Joe Thomas Road, Grassy Creek, North Carolina. It is in a cow pasture halfway up the hill between the red barn and silo. Please stop and ask permission of the owners before visiting the grave.

Not long after these photos were taken, a Virginia cousin moved this endangered grave marker to her Armentrout Family cemetery in Tazewell. She has since put this new marker in its place.
